A Waking Dream Experience
Notes: I could not remember the date of that day very well, but it happened during my sophomore year.
I assumed it was in very early morning, possibly around 2am to 5am. I was in my bedroom, sleeping on my bed near the wall. I felt very dazed and groggily when I woke up, I noticed something was wrong with my television far in the corner. I always leave my television on, due to my fear of complete darkness. Normally, it would have shows running, or a blue screen that AT&T brands normally do when they were being inactive. This time, it was completely static, I thought that my television was having problems. I felt very briefly paralyzed, I glanced to my clock. That was when I saw a faint outline of the shadow. That shape I knew so well and often researched on was Grim Reaper. Before my imagination started to become wild, convincing me into believing that I could've seen the scythe, I blinked. It was gone. I became suspicious about that dream ever since.

I'm terrified of the dark too (which doesn't explain what I'm doing on this site in the first place, since the stories tend to make me glance over my shoulder), so I also sleep with my TV on. I know the feeling.

If you've looked around the site, this is actually a fairly common experience. Typically it's called sleep paralysis/night terrors. People awaken paralyzed and see a dark figure resembling a black-hooded figure nearby. Sometimes it speaks, sometimes it makes other hostile looking actions, and sometimes it just disappears as it did in your case. Normally people feel scared. This is nothing out-of-the-ordinary (in supernatural terms) and you don't have to be scared of it (though it is a scary event). Just remember it won't harm you in case it ever occurs again. Any other supernatural stuff occur to you? Night terrors seem to accompany people who are more attuned to paranormal activity.
