Contact by Ouija

Disclaimer : I was all of 11 years old when this took place, and very gullible and impressionable, so I don't know if this was supernatural or a trick, but I'd like to share it in case anyone has heard or experienced anything similar.

In 5th grade, I saved up enough allowance to buy an Ouija board. It wasn't till 6th grade that I found a good friend who was willing to give it a legitimate try. I don't remember all the details, but we tried it on several occasions, and almost every time, it responded. After asking a few general questions to make sure the spirits were present, Amber (my friend) thought we should try to contact the spirit of Bloody Mary, (who I guess was a real woman however many billions of years ago). Anyway, we asked for her by name, and the Ouija said "no". Then we asked "why?" of course, and the board started spelling out words like "dead" and "fire" and going back to "no". Eventually we asked who we WERE talking to, since Bloody Mary was off limits, the board spelled out the name Abby. Her age when she died was between 6-9, she said she died in a fire caused by her mother, and when we asked her mother's name, she spelled out "Mary". That's when we made the connection that Bloody Mary had a daughter, and we got her instead. We talked to her during several sessions, she was very cooperative, but each time she said she would not let us talk to her mother.

Again, I'm telling this like I believe it although I honestly have no way to be sure the experience wasn't perpetuated by my friend. By the way, for you people out there who get all "mothering hen like" about the "dangers of Ouija boards!" just stop it. There's just about a million OTHER ways to try to connect with the dead, and every single one of them holds the potential to "invite" spirits of every background into your home. There's nothing special about the Ouija method that only allows evil to pass through. A portal is a portal and more likely the portal during a game of Ouija is not the board itself, it's the people participating, so don't get mad at the board if you get a poltergeist or some other unwanted spirit. The risks of contacting the other side are just as great no matter what tool you use. And as for my experience, whether it was supernatural or my friend playing a running joke (she never changed her story that she wasn't moving it) it's like a scary movie: when it's over, you turn it off. When you're done Ouijaing, you put it back in the box. Game over.
