familiars

I’ve suffered from demonic oppression all my life. My great-grandmother was a powerful witch from Hungary, with a familiar spirit to boot. That spirit "belonged" to my family. My grandmother appeased it with ouija boards and tarot cards. My one uncle fell heavily under its influence, but my dad pleased it the most. He dabbled in the arts that it taught him, if only for a short time. When he stopped, it got pissed off. Years later, my dad was ordained as a minister, further pissing this thing off. Since I can remember I've had strange dreams and hallucinations, add to that an inborn sensitivity from being gifted intellectually (plus a strong clairsentience and minor use of other such things) and a vivid imagination, and you can see how that would be a problem. Throughout the years I've developed a few techniques for warding off attacks: learning when they happen, finding a suitable distraction, various other things. I thought I had it under control. Then I just happened to run into her. I became friends with a girl over a social website (I won't bother with the details) and found out that she had been a wicka at one point. Her old familiar was causing all kinds of family issues and phenomena around her house (yes I'm aware that poltergeist phenom can occur due to a teenage girls latent ability, but after speaking with her, I thought it safe to rule that out) so I decided to lend my "expert" advice being as how I had dealt with multiple paranormal phenom before. It started out fine, if I held a live online conversation with her I could tell what was going on. You're most vulnerable to attack when you sleep, and most attacks happen during "the witching hour" (late at night). I decided to stay up and help ward this thing off. I thought I might even be able to weaken this thing. In classifications, my familiar was a djinn, her's was definitely not. I found myself pinned to a wall by a shadow figure. That was the most malevolent feeling I had ever felt. I did the only thing I could. I tried to call for help. The air was instantly pressed out of my lungs and I made little more than a whimper. For the next two and a half hours, I struggled just to keep myself alive, and to get that THING out of my head until dawn broke. I was released. It never attacked again, though it showed up plenty. Eventually the girl stopped talking to me and I haven't had a problem since... makes me wonder sometimes.
