I'm In Here

I had been selling Real Estate for a while so, I was no stranger to seeing off or unusual things while showing homes.

I got this nice, younger couple that hired me to purchase their first home. They were pre-approved but, on a very limited budget. They showed me a listing of a home they really wanted to see asap. I scheduled the appointment, and we went to do a preview. The home was very well priced, within their budget and was completely renovated inside and out. It was like a brand, new home. The home was vacant so we were able to get right in. I opened the door and walked into the foyer with the young couple in tow. As soon as I walked into the house I had an eerie feeling of being watched. The couple ran upstairs while I walked through the living room into the dining room. While standing in the dining observing the nice handy work that was done, I heard a women's voice clearly say "I'm in here"! I walked back to the living room and heard the voice again say, "I'm in here". I quickly gathered the young couple, walked out and locked the door. Furthermore, I knew what I heard. The drive back to my office the couple told me they wanted to make an offer immediately. I stressed the entire ride back trying to decide how I was going to explain what I heard without them thinking I was crazy. I told them that I would pull the property's seller's disclosure statement for them to read the details on the home. On the last page of the disclosure there was a newspaper article taped at the bottom that read, "women murdered by her husband in the kitchen." The article read that her husband killed her with a hammer, lit the home on fire and left. I explained to them that this was the reason that the home was completely redone inside and out. It was a burned out home and the murder scene took place in the kitchen. The same room I heard "I'm in here", coming from. I explained to them that the was considered a "stigmatized property", and would be difficult to re-sell. I never told them about the women's voice I heard. Thankfully, they decided not to purchase the home.
