Mysterious Conversation

I was about 13 years old and was on the phone with my best friend at the time. Over the years she has told me frequent stories about her experiences with the supernatural, I feel 100% that she's very sensitive to it. Anyway, we were talking and she was at home, alone. I was in my bedroom but my family was home. After a few minutes of conversing we both heard a click as if someone picked up another phone and began listening to our conversation. We both stopped mid sentence and listened, we then heard what sounded like the crumpling of paper or wrappers and heavy breathing. We couldn't tell if it was male or female. My friend told me to hit the flash button so I did. I could click over and hear the other line, I clicked back over and told her to do the same. She did it and it only sent her directly back to my line, meaning that there was someone else on another phone in her house. She began to panic and cry, which then caused me to do the same. All the while, the 'person' was making a lot of noise, breathing, whispering, crumpling things. I asked her what other phones were in her house and she said that there was a Micky Mouse phone in her mom's bedroom but it was unplugged, but she went and checked anyway. It was in her mom's closet. She then began crying even harder and said 'Kelli, there's a phone in the basement! But I'm not going down there...' We began trying to figure out how anyone would be able to get to her basement, considering the fact that the windows were too small for anyone to crawl through and they were supposedly locked. I told her to go down and check anyway and that nothing would happen. So she began to descend the stairs, but as she reached the last few steps she ran back up saying that she just couldn't do it. She went back into the living room and on the chair across from her was the phone from her basement, she was hysterical. Her mom came home shortly afterwards, she never told her. We talked the next day and she said that it happened again with another one of her friends but not for as long. For me, I do believe this happened as something supernatural, and I'm a huge skeptic. I've never seen anything with my own two eyes, I've only heard things but this was severe and caused me to believe.

I used to have stuff like this happen to me when we lived in our very spooky house during the 80's and 90's. When it would happen at our house it was usually because the line was crossed with some other home's line. Usually we could hear them but they couldn't hear us. We know because we would say hello and usually we'd hear something like, "Hey, something's wrong with the phone!" They would never respond to us. Also, it seems like the crackling you heard was crackling on the line. It can sound a lot like paper. Maybe it was a phone worker linked up with a test phone at a phone junction box. Maybe it was just a crossed line. Perhaps you can make these suggestions to your friend. It may comfort her a little bit to know that it was probably a problem on the line and not anything paranormal.

Had she gone to the basement and found the phone off the hook, then I would say it's too creepy for words. For now it's just an unknown, right? Thanks for the story.

I've had experiences with crossed lines & this as I remember it was a bit different.

My friend also, has always told me stories of her experiences, the list is literally endless.

I forgot to mention, there was also tapping on the phone, as if someone were tapping on the reciever with their finger.

& the phone was off the hook, she found it upstairs on the chair after she came back from checking the basement. & I don't think that it was a crossed line because she couldn't click over to the other line (call waiting), it sent her straight back to the line that I was on, meaning that there had to be someone else on another phone in her house. The person wasn't talking, just making random sounds & I could distintively tell that it was some sort of paper crackling, not just static, I could still hear my friend clearly. & she said that it happened twice more after it happened with me.

Weird. It'd have been interesting to see if she found any kind of crumpled paper around the house to draw some links. Stupid cowardly ghosts... can't just say what's on their mind and stop being creepy about it.

That would be pretty creepy.

That's interesting. Entities like this normally look to terrify and stir up paranoia and fear. It would seem they accomplished that with your friend. Did you ever attempt to investigate her home and find out if anything or 'anyone' else dwells there?

Well recently she has had some experiences & she claims that they aren't there to hurt anyone because her mom was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago & right after they moved in she hasn't been sick. Though when I'm there, I feel uncomfortable :/

Hmm. It's hard to accurately declare the motives of paranormal entities. I'm not entirely sure they have a concept of right or wrong, good or evil. I think they simply do what they want.

I would have to say the experience you've mentioned was an attempt to gain attention and thus power. Entities tend to feed and grow off of that. That would suggest a somewhat negative connotation, however if it truly is ridding your friend's mother of the cancer she has, it is possible it is helping all that the same time. Different entities are like different people...they all play by different rules, while there are some rules they all follow. It might be healing the mother as some kind of 'tradeoff' for the attention given to it. But attention helps things like this manifest, and you have to wonder what the ultimate goal is.

And you might feel uncomfortable because you sense the entity feeding off of those in the house and not yourself.

Makes sense... now why haven't I seen anything when I'm there? I used to be over there quite a lot & never would anything happen yet when she's alone in the house it seemed to go absolutely nuts.

Dai Arashi Oct 26, 2009

Well, it's quite likely that since she's the resident, it's much more important to the entity that she acknowledges it. Whether you acknowledge it or not wouldn't probably affect it much unless it really wants recognition as much as possible. Right now it seems interested only in establishing recognition within your friends house, though at some point, it might make itself known. Have you made an attempt to speak/communicate/interact with it?
