Shadow Dog

When I was Fourteen years old we moved to a newly build house on a hill. There was no reason for the house to be haunted as it was only a year or so old.

The hill was comprised of solid red granite, Which leads me to wonder about the presence of radon and other natural by products of large deposits of granite.

I started to notice that when I got home from school I would look up at the top of the stairs and there would be a large shadow dog. It appeared to be a black labrador retriever by the body conformity. I got the feeling that the dog was making sure that I had gotten home safely and that he was greating me. I always felt so safe when I would look up and see him standing sentry. I would send him a message of thankful love and friendship. Once I was home I wouldn't see him as much. This continued for all the years that I lived there.

The previous owners of the house had had two black labs, but had taken them with them. I wondered for a long time if they returned to make sure that all was well?
