Speaking with the Dead
I had just had a miscarriage, was going to college full-time and needed a part-time job. So I answered an ad for a personal aid for a woman with cerebral palsy. Ellen was super sweet and I loved her from day one. I was with her a lot. Ellen had a cat that she called Miss Kitty who was probably her only true and loyal friend. Not long after I began working for her, Miss Kitty went missing. She liked to roam outside during the days but would always come home at night. For many nights she stopped coming home and Ellen became very worried. She put posters up everywhere but no one came forward. A few days into this I had a waking vision of a black and white cat behind a bush at the apartment complex where Ellen lived. I knew at that moment that Miss Kitty was dead and was somewhere behind a bush in the complex. I didn't tell Ellen about my dream because I didn't want to upset her. About a week later I was at the store across the street and saw one of Ellen's posters of Miss Kitty on the door. I asked the man at the counter if he knew Ellen and how sad it was about her cat. Then he told me.....a few days before, one of the men who works on the apartment property told him that he had found a black and white cat, dead behind a bush at the complex and that he knew it was Ellen's cat but he was too afraid to tell her. So he dumped Miss Kitty's body in the dumpster. Ugh!
I never had the courage to tell Ellen any of this but about a month later, after Ellen had given up searching, I had a dream about Miss Kitty. There she was looking at me, kind of glowing, seeming very happy and peaceful - it was as if she wanted me to tell Ellen that she was ok. I did eventually tell Ellen about this dream and it seemed to ease her grief just a little.
