Strange Days at Otter Creek
Little People...
While on vacation at Otter Creek Park with my family, I started noticing strange things.
When I was alone at the cabin, I would see small figures running between the trees outside the cabin door... they would also peek out from behind the trees... always visible in my peripheral vision, they would of course disappear when I turned towards them.
I told my family about them, but they laughed at me... and who wouldn't? The thing is; I've never seen them anywhere else, and when I saw them, it was as if they were made of colored smoke... each its own color, both solid and ethereal.
Followed...
Otter Creek is pitch black at night, and even with a mag-lite in hand, the darkness swallows the light on the edge of the beam.
My brother and I went on a little hike around midnight while we were there, and we kept hearing someone walking behind us... but every time we would turn around there would be no one there. We continued on for a while, until the footsteps behind us became unnervingly close.
At one point they were directly behind us, and I even walked backward, shining the light behind us to try and catch our elusive lurker... but to no avail.
They seemed to step in time with our own footsteps most of the time, so for a while we thought it might be echoes... but being dark, one of us would occasionally trip or slide, and the footfall behind us would not.
Screams in the Night...
I've always been a night owl, and it's often that you will find me awake at hours that others are sleeping fitfully (like right now, for example).
On the night before we were to leave Otter Creek, I was sitting alone in the kitchen of the cabin writing songs and poems when I suddenly stopped... a cold chill dragged down my spine, and I heard a long screaming wail drift up from the train tracks that rested at the bottom of the drop off that was a few yards behind the cabin we were staying in. It sounded like it came from about a mile away, but it was so close that it sounded like it was in the room... I even got the feeling that it filled the room. Its presence was almost physical.
And of course, to this day no one in my family believes me about that either...

The date was in the late 80s, probably between July and August.
As one gets older, they tend to forget those important dates... hehe.

That was completely random and off-topic but you never know... maybe it was evil otters following you...

There weren't 20 of them, but I remember at least 5.
We went through a loaf of bread a day the week we were there, because we would throw half of it out to the raccoons when they came calling at night.

Its odd. It seems that oppressive darkness seems to be directly linked to supernatural phenomena. Assuming this was supernatural instead of natural. FEAR THE OTTERS!!!!
