The Girl with the Knife

I used to live in a basement that was inhabited by several spirits. One of the spirits resided in my closet and took the form of a little girl. Unlike other spirits in the basement, I could see her clearly, as could my little brother. She was dressed in clothing appropriate for the colonial ages, and had a little knife. She also used the knife to leave physical evidence of her presence on the inside of the closet, in the form of carved lines and shapes.

One day, my boyfriend came over before I had returned from school, and my mother thought that it would be funny if he hid in the closet and jumped out throwing a container of popcorn on me. My poor, stupid boyfriend thought the idea was excellent and went downstairs to my room to hide in my closet.

He remained alone in that closet for half an hour without incidence until he suddenly heard a scraping noise on the other side of the closet in the center of the door. He then heard a little girl's voice tell him that she had been a bad girl and that she would have to stab him for being bad too. I was just coming in the front door when I heard him yell and smash his way through the flimsy closet door, not breaking it, but merely shoving it off it's sliding track.

I ran down the stairs to find him standing in front of the closet with the popcorn and container at his feet, hyperventalting. I helped him put the closet door back on it's track and opened the other side of the door to investigate. Not surprisingly, there were three more long knife marks on the inside of the closet door. I never used that closet again.
