The Lone Soldier
It was the middle of the night but I was unable to sleep. I was eight months pregnant with my son. I was laying on my right side facing the wall and praying that my son would settle down and sleep so I could sleep. A little while later I felt someone leaning on the bed behind me but down at the end. I figured it was my mother. She was coming in a lot in the middle of the night to check in on me (she came to stay because of difficulties that I was having). I rolled over smiling, expecting to see her face but instead I was met with a man. There was something wrong with his face. It had been burned or something. He was wearing a gray cap and a gray uniform with large buttons and he had a sword or something that hung from his side. He was leaning over looking at me. I screamed because I thought someone had broken in. I could hear my mother and husband running towards my room but before they reached the door the man faded away. He didn’t just disappear he faded away while keeping his eyes on mine.
I did a little research and found that a battle had been fought on the hill that I lived. I never saw him again but I have always wondered why he was leaning over to look at me.

I haven't. But something that may or may not be connected is that anytime I am in a store and I come up on a civil war book that seems to have character I have to buy it. I can't really explain what I mean by character except for the look, feel and smell of the book draws me in. It is a sense of comfort to even hold the book a kind of peace. Or, I am just really weird.
