The Many Deaths of Anne

I just wanted an opinion or two on whether or not these dreams I suffer from could mean anything. I am not good with dream analysis, even with all the dream dictionaries in the world. Anyway, I don't usually have nightmares, not even when I was a child, or after watching scary movies. My dreams are usually those bizarre turn-into-a-dolphin-and-start-doing-the-tango-with-Oprah kind of dreams. But on the night of July 23, I had what I would call my first real, heart-pounding nightmare.

It was closing night of a musical I was in, and I stayed out with my friends until about one in the morning. One of my closest friends (I'll call her Anne for the sake of clarity) drove me home. She just got her license, and we always tell her to be careful, since she has a tendency to be kind of crazy (not in a partying druggie ** way, but in a youthful, intense way). When I got home I texted my boyfriend, did some summer homework, and went to bed. Sometime very early in the morning (it was already getting light in the room) I woke up to a friend of mine shaking me on the shoulder. I rubbed at my eyes and asked them what was wrong. They said, "They wanted me to tell you, Anne's dead." The friend took me to my window, and I looked out to see a beat-up white car in my driveway. Anne was in the driver's seat, slumped over the wheel. She had been shot, and it was very graphic. I started screaming, but my friend told me to calm down and go back to bed, that there was nothing I could do. I started to run out of my bedroom door, but something grabbed me from behind, and when I hit the ground I woke up. I was in my bed and it was light in my room, and I was very nauseous. I checked Facebook as soon as I got out of bed that morning, and was relieved to see that Anne had updated her status only minutes before. I saw her that afternoon at a friends house for a movie marathon. I again got home very late, but this time I was tired and went straight to bed. This time I woke up earlier on in the night, about 2:00, to a voice in my ear. I opened my eyes and saw my boyfriend standing beside my bed, crying. When I asked what was wrong he said, "Anne died just a few minutes ago. I'm really sorry." Once again I got out of bed, frantic, but as soon as I stood up the floor seemed to vanish. I woke up and it was morning. The exact same thing happened for two more nights, this time repeating the appearance of my boyfriend over and over. Nothing bad was happening to Anne, though. I haven't had the dream in a couple of weeks, but I just want to know, should I stop worrying, or could there be any truth to my dreaming about Anne's death by vehicle accident four nights in a row?

hmmmm.... well, not to scare you or anything but you should worry a little. however, your dreams might just be trigered by how close you are to her. and as you said.... shes a teen ager, wild, likes to have fun. and she just got her licences. so i woukdnt worry to much. like i said they could mean something.....or you could be jittery. no one can tell.

Yeah, I agree with Zune.

Since you probably worried a bit when you told her to be careful, that stuck with you subconsciously, triggering a nightmare.

I have them a lot too & no worries.

I used to have nightmares about friends and family being chased or killed or eaten by demons, zombies, or dinosaurs (Velociraptors and Tyrannosaurs).

I've had so many of these nightmares, that what would be considered a terrifying nightmare to most, is little more than a regular dream to me... they just don't affect me any more.

I can't really say that I remember having a dream with such specific qualities, and I would advise you to trust your instincts on matters such as this... if you feel unease about the safety of someone you dream about, and the feeling lingers, I would call and check on that person. Tell them your dream... perhaps if they are in danger, something in your dream may act as a warning sign.

I'm grateful for the opinions. I really hope you guys are right in saying that it might have just been a dream sparked by my fears for her safety. I was just worried because I just don't have nightmares (except a kind of silly one in the 9th grade about my best friend's boyfriend becoming possessed and killing Larry King with a chainsaw on live TV). But thanks.

I've been keeping in touch with her, but she left for college yesterday, so I won't see her for a while. On a trip to the lake we got in a conversation about dreams, and I mentioned my nightmare. She just said, "That means we're friends! Friends always die in dreams." I guess that's true. It could just be a normal human trait.
