The Westward Ho

I reside in a very historic building, it has had many people inside it's doors since it 's opening in 1928. You may look it up online, and there are many unusual events that have happened here both before & since I have moved here. One thing about it is the management will put a picture of any person, who has died on a bullitin board downstairs near the mail room. See, the Westward Ho isn't a hotel anymore, it's a residental building for low income adults who are handicapped & elderly.

In my apartment, I have had 2 coffee pots break in mid-air in may hands. I have also seen a shadow man complete with a fedora near my bathroom door, in front of my bookshelf, which is across from my huge double bed.

So as I was looking at the area which is also by the thermometer, and a couch, one morning after 1 AM , I saw this gangster type shadowman. I have also seen shadow forms outside by the patio, as I was walking my dog. The form was there next to the covered patio, which is near the walk way, and close to a tree. This is near an entrance, that goes into a room that used to be a popular restaurant in the past when this was a elegant Hotel.

I have heard that many celebrities starting from the original gangsters to JFK and his family have stayed here. Many female celebrities have too, among them was Marilyn Monroe, who I read had the 16th floor as a year round suite.

For the first few years that I have lived here, I used to look up towards the huge radio tower, wondering why the top of the building had port hole windows, when we are told that there were only 15 floors. The 15th floor used to be a viewing section that surrounded a radio station, now it's an area that is off limits, "forbidden" for us to go to. That's too bad, because I would love to see the view of Phoenix, AZ from there. I wonder constantly, what the 16th floor actually holds, but that's alright, my curiosity isn't that strong considering that the elevators in this place are almost always doing strange things like missing floors, or taking you for a ride. Oftentimes taking you to the 15th floor, that is not air conditioned, and musty.

I read theres a "vortex" in the basement. The only area where the tenants are actually allowed to venture are the storage lockers. I have worked in many avenues where have learned to operate a service elevator. The service elevator goes from the celler/basement to probably 15th or even 16th floor, but of course is also off limits.

I would truely enjoy an explaination for where the hallways go, and what the spaces were used for, not only in there but all over this place. I'd love to see the original blueprints . I'd love an actual tour made by someone who knows about this place, maybe even actually stayed here when it was a lavish Hotel.

If anything more arrises I'll be sure to let you know. I was told last week by a cabbie, that one of the radio stations that broadcasted from here was KFYI, where the show Coast To Coast AM is broadcasted nightly. Now that's very interesting to me , because I actually enjoy that show & am always telling people to listen or write to George Noory, or the others who are there.

I think your building management should have the elevators looked at. They should never go to the wrong floors, and when they do it's a possible malfunction warning. People can get stuck or they can drop--awful!

Also, write them letters and encourage them to start a tour program for interested residents and their families. They can help you all to feel as though it's your home and not just a place you stay. They might take your advice and maybe you could volunteer to do some research about the history of the place. There's no law that prevents you from researching it on your own, anyway. Learn as much as you can.

Good luck and keep us posted on the history of the building.

I know of many times that the elevator repair people have attempted to repair the elevators. I attend the tenants meetings. I understand your comment about the tenants , and how they should feel welcome here, but it's okay. I also do research this place. However I don't want to stand out as a busy body, I love research, I like this place, but I'm 1 among 300 others who do what they do. I just wanted to tell everyone about this place full of Phantasms. Not become political. Thanks for yuor comment.
