Thirteen House

My family and I had been living in a small apartment when a friend of my parents told them about a large home that he was in charge of leasing out for a performer at his club in town. The house was owned by a famous country singer and his family. I don't know if I should say their name so I won't for now. Anyway, they wanted someone in the house while they weren't there.

We were very excited to move into this big nice home!

It had 13 rooms, it was (at the time) 13 years old, and the address was "1300!"

It had a beautiful den with a bookcase that had a door that when you closed it it looked like a record! My bedroom was the only one with paneling and had actual bullets from the Civil War still embedded in the wood.

My parents were still young and would go out frequently. My older sister and I would sometimes be home alone and experienced many things. But most of the time my parents would be there and witness these things.

One night I was standing in my bedroom in front of the dresser which had a mirror attached. The mirror fell forward towards me for no apparent reason. I managed to move before it crashed to the floor! My parents rushed in and could not figure out how it happened as the mirror had been bolted onto the dresser.

Another time my sister was sleeping in my room - she didn't like her room - it was spooky. She had a habit of always looking out the window before going to sleep. She looked out and told me to come and look - there were the figures of 4 men lined up in the backyard looking toward our house - we called the police but nobody was found.

Another night a fire had mysteriously started in the backyard dangerously close to the house - my dad had to get up and go put it out.

Other things that happened were that my mom had a fall and broke her arm in the house, cut her eye and had to have stitches while doing something in the kitchen, doors would open on their own from the den into the dining room, my oldest sister had a miscarriage, my grandfather committed suicide, and just all around bad luck.

We lived there less than a year because we were so scared of all the things happening. We moved back into our cozy apartment and everything was back to normal. I still don't think I could spend the night in that house!
