Touched
I was washing dishes around ten something at night in my in-laws house out in the country. Suddenly I heard boots behind me. Only my father in law, and my 2 year old neice would wear boots and I couldn't tell which one it was. Anyway, I didn't even look behind me at first because I hear them all the time and I was busy with a task, no big deal. Then I realized what time it was and that neither my father in law, or my neice should be up that late. That's when I turned around to see which it was, and no one was there. I quickly checked the other rooms to see if it was someone and I just missed them, but no one turned up. I don't scare easily, so I just brushed it off as something else and went back to my dishes.
Now, my neice had recently been doing this thing where she comes up behind me and puts her hand on the back of my leg or on my behind to get my attention. A night or two after I heard the footsteps, I was in the kitchen again, roughly around the same time, getting a snack when I felt her do that. I went to turn afound and tell her to go back to bed, but she wasn't there. Next day or day after, I was touched again in the same manner, again absolutely convinced that it was my neice being silly, but she wasn't there. No one was. I wasn't caught on anything, my clothes weren't twisted or anything else that might've caused that feeling. My parents in law deny that anything paranormal exists in that house (they consider themselves extremely spiritual and think they would've been the first to know), but I talked to my brother in law, my neice's father and he said something similar happened to him too, and he thought it was his daughter. I don't know what or who may be haunting that house, but I'm glad to have my own experience to share now!

Glad to hear you've finally had some sort of experience. I doubt your in-laws would want you to but you can do your own little investigation (EVPs, pictures) in the house if they wouldn't mind (or without them knowing...). Roughly how old is your niece? It's possible she could be reaching an age where her energies may stir up more paranormal stuff.

My niece was about 1 1/2 at the time, now she's 2

Still pretty young... typically around 5+ children can start to affect spirits in a house more powerfully, and it often picks up strength during pre-teen and teenager years. I'd keep an eye on the house and your niece as she grows up and you both may find more interesting supernatural phenomenon occur. Good stuff.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the turmoil of adolescence stirring up spirit activity, but, none of us live in that house anymore, so it'll be someone elses issue. But it only happened those 3 times, so I'm wondering if it wasn't related to some kind of anniversary.
