Troubled (dreams of children)

In 1978 we moved from Virginia Beach to Kentucky to be with my Grandmother in the last days of her life. Her battle with Leukemia was nearly over, and it left her in such a condition that Mom would not allow me to see her before she passed on.

Though I don't remember much about her, I remember that she was very dear to me... and though she was a strict disciplinarian, she was loving, tender, and everything you imagine a Grandmother to be. I did not take her death well. After the funeral, I remember being angry with the other members of my family because they got together and got drunk and laughed. I didn't appreciate what remembering someone meant, at the time... and those feelings of resentment lasted for a while.

It wasn't too long after, that I began having dreams of my Grandmother floating outside of my second story bedroom window, asking me to jump out and be with her. The dreams (and my remorse) affected me so strongly, that in my sleep I began to climb out of bed and try to open my window and climb out. After several night of this, my Mother became worried (having caught me in the attempt several times now) and began blocking the window, making it difficult for me to get to, while sleeping.

The one day at school, I asked for a pass and walked the long hallway to the bathroom. Halfway down the corridor, I heard someone call my name... and without even thinking about it, I turned and looked down the hall towards the double doors that lead to the playground. There my Grandmother stood, standing in the bright sunshine that shone from the windows, which obscured most of her body, except her head... which smiled lovingly at me. Because I could not go to her and say goodbye, she had come to me. It was then, in her presence, that I could finally put my feelings to rest, and mourn her passing. From that day on, I no longer had the nightmares.

I do... I think she was meant to be my Guardian angel, because this isn't the only time I've known she was there... she's been with me through many troubled times.

That's awesome to be able to know your guardian and furthermore be able to say goodbye. Excellent heartwarming story.

This story reminds me of how I felt about my Grandmother; whom I lost a few months ago. I'm putting up a story about her on this site. I adored her, and she loved me very much. She was one of the most hardworking, sweet people that I have ever known. She raised 3 kids practically alone (granddaddy was not around much.), and she worked 2 jobs to support them. She was also an incredibly talented artist (like my granddaddy), and she would paint for hours. She would have been 82 on November 29th of this year. I had hospice call and talk to me when she passed away because I was so beside myself with grief. I did not get to attend my grandmother's funeral; finances wouldn't allow for it, as it was back in AZ, and my mom, sister & I are in TN now. My grandmother was a wonderful person; but unfortunatly in the last several years of her life, she suffered from extreme dementia. It made her a completly different person; but I try not to think of that person; that was not my grandmother. I know that. My feelings about it are that her spirit passed before any damage was done. We had to put her in a nursing home, and we visited her there. When the subject of moving came up, we realized she was in too bad a shape to try to move; we knew she wouldn't survive it. We moved; visited her before we left AZ, and it is one of the hardest things our family has had to do. I am glad she passed on though; because she was miserable, and totally not herself anymore, and she would have hated to drag on and on the way she did. She is at peace now, and I know she is watching over me, just like yours is watching over you. When we got the call from AZ telling us that she was gone, I can't describe how I felt. I just couldn't find the proper words. All I could do was cry, and I did for days. I ended up talking to a nun that attended the nursing home visiting patients. It was comforting to talk with someone who knew about loss; and the effects of it. I know I will never get over losing my grandmother; but I feel better knowing she is in a better place. After I went to sleep on those first few nights after she passed, I could smell certain scents in my bedroom; flowers (but mostly a smoky smell; like someone cooking smoked sausages.) It didn't freak me out at all. I knew it was her; just reasuring me that she was okay. After a few days, the scent faded; but the memory of that remains. Just thought my story would be understandable to you; seeing as how we both lost someone very important to us; our GRANDMOTHER. I really enjoyed reading your story.

Paranormally Aware,

Heather

P.S. I don't know about your grandmother, but mine always spoiled me!

My grandmother was a strict but loving soul. I know she loved us very much, but when we were bad, we got punished.

Those aren't the things I personally remember about her though, those are things I remember other people have told me...

My strongest memory of her was when we lived in Virginia Beach and she came to visit (my sister was going to be born soon). I remember waking up late that night to see her sitting in the corner of my room, watching me sleep. When I saw her I jumped down off the bed and ran to her and hugged her, and we pulled my blankets and pillows down and laid on the floor talking until I fell back asleep.

Those are the king of memories that are close to my heart.
